EGX... A Pioneer In Sustainability Efforts

The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) is a great believer in sustainable development to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own. EGX would endorse any sustainable business practices that would adopt more environmentally friendly and energy efficient solutions, to ensure prosperity for future generations.

EGX is one of four pioneer exchanges that joined the United Nations' Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative (SSE) in 2009. The aim of the initiative, founded by the UN Secretary-General, is to enhance exchange-listed companies' transparency and commitment to environmental, social and corporate governance issues.

Additionally, EGX launched its S&P EGX ESG index in March 2010; the first and only ESG index in the Middle East and North Africa Region designed to track the performance of companies listed on EGX that demonstrate leadership in environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues. EGX is also an active member of the Sustainability Working Group (SWG) of the World Federation of Exchanges that was established in March 2014, as it became Vice Chairman of SWG in May 2016 for a term of two years ended on May 2018.

From another perspective, EGX will facilitate the listing process for companies working in the eco-industries field i.e. renewable energy, waste recycling, transportation etc. EGX provides a diverse platform to finance eco-industries through IPOs, bonds, Sukuk and infrastructure funds.

Furthermore, EGX has formed an internal Committee to manage its CSR activities and direct the charitable funds made by EGX, its employees or market participants, in coordination with the Ministry of Social Solidarity to ensure that these funds are properly used.

The following is an example of EGX CSR activities:

Stage One: (Orphanages Supplies)
Electrical appliances, furniture, furnishings and kitchen utensils worth EGP 269,501 were donated to 6 orphanages and delivered under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Solidarity.

Stage Two: (Back to School)
School supplies worth EGP 299,682.35 were donated to 33 orphanages and were delivered to the orphanages officials in the premises of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in the presence of EGX delegates.

Stage Three: (Supplies for Disable Orphanages)

The exchange is currently coordinating with the Ministry of Social Solidarity to deliver these donated items to those orphanages.
