EGX Issues the First ASEA Sustainability Roadmap Progress Report & Witnesses ASEA-GRI MOU Signing Ceremony
The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) participated in the African Securities Exchanges Associations (ASEA) 23rd Annual Conference held from 24th to 26th November in Kasane-Botswana.  The conference witnessed the launch of the first “Sustainability Progress Report”.
EGX initiated the Sustainability Working Group of the ASEA beginning of 2018 and published the first “Sustainability Roadmap” of ASEA members at the 22nd Annual Conference of the Federation of African Exchanges held in Lagos, Nigeria, November 2018.
The report this year seeks to highlight current developments and progress in sustainability practices among the ASEA member exchanges measuring the steps taken in applying the ASEA Sustainability Roadmap recommendations. Thus, the report is designed as an annual progress report which builds on the findings and recommendations of the road map introduced in 2018.
The report highlights the significant improvements in African exchanges in the various dimensions of sustainability.  It states the increasing number of exchanges interested in "green sustainable finance”.
Mohamed Farid Saleh, Executive Chairman of EGX, reiterated his call of the World Dialogue of the United Nations Sustainable Exchanges Initiative in Geneva, October 2018, for international development organizations to adopt the initiative he put forward. To invest in companies that apply sustainability indicators such as the S&P Sustainability Index.
During the same event, Chairman of the Sustainability working committee witnessed the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the president of the Federation of African Securities Exchanges, Karim Haji, and the Global Reporting Initiative "GRI", represented by Peter Wistra, Chief Operating Officer of the Initiative.  The MOU aims to increase awareness sustainability practices and help prepare the guide of ASEA member exchanges.
